Obituary of Gennett Bembery-Rogers
Gennett Bembery-Rogers The youngest of 14 children born to the late John and Annie Hayes Bembery on July 9, 1938, in Cordele, Gorgia. Gennett was called to rest on March 26, 2022.
Affectionally known as Big Mom. She had zest for life and loved with a generous heart. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She loved cooking, sewing gardening, traveling, and was a member of the Camden County Senior Bowling League and the Camden County chapter of the NAACP.
Her education began in the Crisp County Ga. School System. Upon relocating with her family to Camden, NJ in 1955 She attended and graduated from Camden High School in 1958 and married the love of her life John C. Rogers. Gennett was the proud mother of 5 children and encouraged them to engage in all extracurricular activities in school and recreation, especially music. Upon completion her family she worked various jobs.
Gennette was a seamstress at Parre Frocks and Little women until she secured employment at Campbell Soup. While there she held various positions including seamstress, line worker and lab supervisor until the Camden Plant until closed in 1991 after over 25 years of service.
She decided it was time for her to take steps to pursuing her goals of extending her education and becoming a teacher. She graduated from Camden County receiving her associates degree and attended Glassboro State College. She worked for the Camden City School District until she retired.
Gennett accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized by Bishop Robert O. Doub. at the Shiloh Apostolic Temple in Philadelphia PA. She sang with the Silhouettes Choir. She was known for her infamous cornbread stuffing, sweet potato pie, cakes, and anything else she could provide from the trunk of her car from shoes to outfits. She also held membership at Bright Memorial and later St. John’s Baptist Church through Christian experience under the leadership of Dr.Silas Townsend. Even during the Covid pandemic she continued to worship through the online services.
Gennett was faithful throughout her life and instilled this love of Christ in all of her children.
Gennett was proceeded in death by; her daughter Fay F. Rogers-Thompson, her sisters Gussie Mae, Tessie, Tressie, Dorothy, Evelyn and Hazel and brothers John Earl, Clifford, Chester, James, Samuel Lee, and Ulice.
She leaves to cherish and continue her legacy: sister Annie Jewel Holmes, Beloved cousins Clara Stembridge and Alma Williams. Lifelong friends Elouise Morton, Edith Griffith and Richard Jones. Children Annette ( Bruce), Judy, Karl, and Kirk (Darnita), son in law Daniel , God children Olga Sellers Gibson and Clinton Sellers. Grandchildren Jeffrey ,Robert, Daniel Jr(Jasmine),Demetrius , Jada , Krista, Austin, , Karl Jr. and Kalynn .Great grand Isiah, Julian , Nicole, Mikhi, Serenity, Kataliah, Jacie.
And a host of loving Sister and Brother in Laws ,Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and friends.
