Obituary of Norma Iris Colon
Norma I. Colon, nee Rodriguez, 68 years of age, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021 at the Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick Campus in Brunswick, Georgia at 3:10 pm.
Norma was born on April 23, 1953 in Camden, New Jersey to the late Arcadia Colon- Rodriguez and late Cristobal Rodriguez. She was the beloved wife of Gilberto Colon, Sr. for 47 years. He survives her. Together they had two children that she was most proud of: Gilberto Colon, Jr. (Nicole), Janell I. Simpson (Frank), and her bonus daughter Ana “Ani” Alfaro. Norma also has four grandchildren that were her pride and joy: Julianna I. Simpson, Karrington R. Colon, Frank “Baby Frankie” Simpson, Jr., and Chloe I. Simpson. Norma loved her children and grandchildren very dearly. All of her children and grandchildren survived her.
In 2008 after 28 years of service, Norma retired from the Camden County Board of Social Services as an Intake Worker. Norma loved taking family vacations and going on cruises. She loved going to the casinos and visiting different churches. She loved going to the beach simply to sit on the chair near the water. Norma loved to sing karaoke and enjoyed going to the various restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Norma particularly loved being surrounded by her family, ezpecially her children, and grandchildren. She was strong-minded in her beliefs and a very outspoken and no-nonsense advocate for her family and her community. She was a devout Catholic and her favorite patron saint was Saint Anthony of Padua.
Norma was one of thirteen children. She is survived by her four sisters: Elizabeth “Lisa” Collazo (Heriberto), Victoria “Vicky” Perez, Lissette Robinson, and Noemi “Emy” Rodriguez, and seven brothers: Ifran “Frankie” Rodriguez, Amadi “Butchie” Rodiguez, Johnny Hernandez (Shawn), Pedro “Pete” Rodriguez, Theodoro “Nunie” Espada, Jr., and Jose “Joey” Rodriguez (Krista). She was preceded by death by Maria Llane and Noel Rodriquez.
Norma is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly and cherished every moment that she spent with all of them. Norma was loved by many and her presence on earth will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 to 11 AM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 North Browning Road, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill.
